The night sky is both beautiful and useful.
Dorothea Malfoy is a bit of a charms inventor; she has developed her own for the purpose of cleaning, mending, decorating, and altering textiles. She also adjusted several existing glamour and beauty charms to better suit her own needs or even serve as shields, and also developed alternative levitation charms for small items, and a spell to keep flowers fresh for longer.
Despite keeping at the subject out of a sense of self-preservation for the whole of seven years at Hogwarts, Dorothea can only get to a certain level of skill with it.
Spending time with plants makes the mind calm.
Learning about the history of the magical world is, to Dorothea Malfoy, like getting in some good gossip over tea.
Other than getting through the curriculum flawlessly, Dorothea also dabbles into poisons and cosmetics potions. She experiments with her own brews often, as well as does a lot of research and testing.
She enjoys designing her own items, mostly containers for cosmetics, painting supplies, trinkets, combs, hairpins, or textiles and clothing, and sometimes musical instruments or chimes, and items for her pets. She finds inspiration in the flora, and often even transforms real flowers into items.
There are many uses for arithmancy, from communication to influencing magic as it appears in the world, and altering its shape and properties.
As a future lady, Dorothea cannot afford to be ignorant in art. It is also an interest of hers, and she enjoys painting.
Depending on the creature, Dorothea can be a very good caretaker, or jumpy and a little scared. She dislikes getting dirty and doing the cleaning, especially after bigger beasts, and especially manually, so she often casts Scouring Charms while the professor is not looking, or bribes others to do that portion of the work for her.
She picked up Divination once Atlas had gone away, as a coping mechanism of sorts, to track his wellbeing, and give herself some reassurance. She kept up with it for that reason, and it also proved a good activity at social events, especially those conducted in all-female company.
The deeper understanding of charms and the ways of magic serves as fuel for Dorothea's ingenuity with charms.
While interested, she was not allowed to take the subject at school. She was privately trained in piano, and knows how to charm instruments to play, or conjure a string quartet.
She started studying runes for superficial reasons: because they were pretty, and because they could be used for secret communication. She has since discovered other uses for them, particularly in crafting magical items, as well as divination.
It was something to do, and a good thing to familiarize herself with as a future lady of a home.
There are many uses for arithmancy, from communication to influencing magic as it appears in the world, and altering its shape and properties. A natural continuation after Arithmancy.
The art of focusing and visualizing which is essential for Apparition comes easy to the Occlumens.
Dorothea Malfoy hates flying on a broom. It messes up her hair, her outfit, and flying as a bird simply feels better.
