His favourite subject. He nurtured an interest in the stars because of his family's naming convention, and his own name. He equally enjoys the navigational, as well as the mythical aspect behind the observance of the stars, although he is skeptical of astrology, similarly to his professor.
As someone who has known all their life that they are magical, Atlas has a natural advantage in this subject. He likes reading and learning both flashy and unassuming spells, as he feels like his wand and magic in general are extensions of who he is.
His knowledge of the Dark Arts, as well as the access to his opponent's mind via Legillimency, make Atlas a formidable opponent in duelling. He has also had experience in practical combat and some limited curse breaking during his fifth and sixth years, when he was travelling abroad.
Atlas's worst subject, and the only one he not only openly dislikes, but also has a hard time retaining information for. He is better at theory than practice, seeing that he often kills his plants. At least he less often mixes up his plant species or ingredients.
As an enjoyer of politics, Atlas finds the subject and its theoretical load relatively easy to absorb. He likes to compare or uncover multiple accounts of a single conflict or historical event and ruminate by himself, or in casual conversation over a board game, which side was correct or what went wrong.
There is not much comment to be made about Atlas's skill at potions, considering he practices until he's got it right. He generally sticks to the Hogwarts curriculum in his learning and doesn't deviate to more secret recipes all that often. He also generally doesn't step much outside of the recipes, nor experiment.
His second favourite subject. He loves creating objects out of nothing, and loves to think about their property and design, and the ways to change their shape for either functionality, decoration, or even to hide something, or disguise it as something else.
Atlas finds the application of numeric values to pictograms very entertaining. He started the subject to be able to send secret messages but has since grown fond of it for other purposes.
Similarly to Arithmancy, Atlas sees a lot of practical use for the subject. Also similarly to History of Magic, he doesn't find the theoretical load all too taxing on his mind and likes to think about the subject matter of Magical Theory on his down time a lot.
Atlas's favourite way to approach Runes is in their functionality as magical seals. As a bit of a linguist, he has no trouble picking up on new ones, or their meanings and translation either.
Atlas is aware that being knowledgeable in this subject can allow a witch or wizard to better understand the principles behind magic and adjust individual spells, potentially even creating new ones, which is an idea that excites him. He excels in shield magic, as well as transfiguration adjustments the most.
While relatively new, it is equally an exciting subject matter with much room for study and practical employment. His first year of the subject was studied via correspondence, so Atlas is thrilled to be in the classroom.
Building on everything studied in History of Magic, Atlas finds the subject fascinating.
Due to his absence in sixth year, Atlas is taking the 12-week Apparition course since he's back at Hogwarts for seventh year to get his Ministry license.
Atlas takes this subject as a form of continuation of his DADA and Dark Arts studies, as well as out of morbid curiosity. He does not have the background in Magical Creatures though, so he puts in extra effort where the lack of that background knowledge is most felt.
The only reason he doesn't try out for the House Quidditch Team is the uncertainty of his schedule when his family duties are concerned. He sometimes fantasizes about playing Chaser or joining the Slytherin team during practice here and there. He likes to fly alone at night.
